Fund-raising For Eden

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

This year the popular collective art exhibition organised for the Eden Foundation in Gozo will run from Sunday 18 March to Sunday 15 April, to coincide with the Easter holidays. Many well-established and aspiring artists will exhibit for sale around 400 new works of art in various media. In addition, a number of antique 19th century and early 20th century paintings (including Willie Apap, Emvin Cremona and Vince Apap), will be for sale. A selection of antique and rustic furniture will also be available. A share of proceeds goes to the Eden Foundation to help children and adults with developmental disabilities. At the 10th annual exhibition last year nearly 120 paintings and sculptures and 100 items of furniture were sold.

The Eden Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation, founded in 1992 by Dr Josie Muscat when his sixth child was born with Down’s syndrome. It opened its doors in Malta in 1993 with 23 children, and now caters for nearly 400 individuals ranging from birth to adulthood.

The branch of the Foundation on the sister island of Gozo opened in 1994 and now provides services to more than 25 children and young people. The voluntary committee for Eden Gozo organises fund-raising activities throughout the year to help make ends meet.

The exhibition will be open from 10am, seven days a week: Mondays to Thursdays until 6.45pm, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until 7.30pm. On 30 March it will be open only during the morning and on 6 April, Good Friday, it will be closed all day. The exhibition is held at 104, Republic Street, Victoria (next to Bank of Valletta). Public admission is free but donations to the Eden Foundation are welcome.
