My Job at McDonald’s

Malta Independent Monday, 12 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A good number of people from around the world started their careers at McDonald’s. As stated by some of them, including international and local personalities, their first job at McDonald’s helped lay the foundation for their career.

The Malta Independent interviewed local professional footballer, Justin Haber, during which he recalled on his rewarding experience at McDonald’s.

When did you work at McDonald’s and at which restaurant?

I worked at Mc Donald’s Plaza in summer 1996 for two months.

What were you doing at the time?

I had just finished school at De La Salle College and wished to start a summer job.

What made you choose McDonald’s as your employer?

A friend of mine was a manager at McDonald’s and suggested I should try it. I was always told how great it is to work at McDonald’s and I was glad I got to experience it.

What position did you hold at McDonald’s?

I used to handle the food preparation.

Can you comment on the working environment at McDonald’s?

The working environment was great and a lot of fun. The rush hours proved to be fun as well because they presented a challenge. One must work hard to reach the company target serving times and standards. Moreover, since all employees were young, between rush hours it was time to chat and joke whilst continuing with the chores.

Did you make any new friends?

Definitely. Working at McDonald’s means meeting new people all the time.

What skills did you learn? And how useful are these skills nowadays in your profession?

I learnt how to be punctual and responsible, and most importantly how to be a positive player in a team. This has helped me fulfil my ambition to become a professional footballer.

What advice or comment do you wish to give to all those starting a new job at McDonald’s?

I advise them to take the opportunity to work at McDonald’s because they can learn plenty of new skills which will be used in any career one seeks to pursue later. And after all, it’s fun to work at McDonald’s.

For the eighth consecutive year, McDonald’s Malta will be hiring over 250 part-time crew members during its annual recruitment drive happening on Saturday. All interested applicants, including those wishing to work at McDonald’s Gozo, are invited to attend interviews being held at the Meridien Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana between 9am and 4:30pm.
