Malta Independent Wednesday, 14 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As part of the activities to celebrate 100 years of Scouting Worldwide and in Malta, the Scout Association of Malta is organising a Festa Scout at the National Park, Ta’ Qali. This is being held between Friday and Monday, when various Scout Groups from the Scout Association of Malta will be camping at Ta’ Qali. Scout Groups will start arriving at Ta’ Qali on Friday afternoon in order to set up the required tents, marquees, gadgets, pioneering structures, climbing tower and exhibits, etc. The Scouts will camp at Ta’ Qali till Monday.

The idea of Festa Scout is to show the public in general the many skills that the cubs, scouts, venture scouts and rovers learn through their activities during the year in their various groups. The public will be able to join in these activities through a Walk in Activities experience, during which the different groups present will run their various activities at different times throughout the two days.

Festa Scout, situated at the Ta’ Qali Recreation Area, will be open to the public from 12 noon on Saturday until 5.30pm on Sunday.

The various activities that are being organised will consist of craft-making such as plaster craft, pioneering, rope-making, cooking, games such as obstacle races, etc. An aerial runway and a climbing/abseiling tower will also be available and venture and rover Crews will give various demonstrations.

On Sunday afternoon, several scout bands will be giving performances.

As the groups taking part have the opportunity to camp at Ta’ Qali throughout the weekend, they will be able to join in a camp fire with songs and stunts on Saturday evening at 8pm at the Greek Theatre. The public is invited to attend.
