Malta Independent Friday, 16 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A six-day feast of Lebanese cuisine, wines and entertainment will be celebrated at InterContinental Malta’s Carissa Restaurant at the end of March. Lebanese senior sous chef Kassem Ahmend El Ashek and Lebanese maitre d’hotel Hassan Bassel from InterContinental Hotels Group are flying over to Malta, with the support of Emirates, to treat Carissa Restaurant patrons to their authentic delicacies.

An à la carte menu, with traditional Lebanese cuisine will be prepared by Chef Ashek with a range of meze specialties such as Tabbouleh, Fattoush, Hommous and Baba Ghanouj and a selection of main courses such as Lamb Kofta, Chicken Taouk, Fish Tajen and to finish off an assortment of sweets and desserts such as Baklava, for which the Lebanese are famous. A special shisha menu will also be available with a variety of flavours including apple shisha.

Traditionally Lebanese food is served with Arak – a clear liquorice flavoured liqueur made locally from grapes. When ice water is added to the Arak, the colour turns into a cloudy white concoction and is the perfect addition to any Lebanese meal. A range of Lebanese wines and Arak from Chateau Ksara, supplied by Cleland and Souchet, will be available throughout the week.

The Lebanese food festival at Carissa Restaurant will be held every evening between 7pm and 11pm from 26 to 31 March. For reservations, contact Gabriella Agius on 2137-7600 or e-mail [email protected].
