Malta Independent Monday, 19 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Nestlé Malta is taking an active part in the events being hosted on board MV Logos II, the international floating bookshop currently in Malta for a month’s stay. Nestlé Malta is in fact sponsoring the events with a selection of its products namely the Nesquik Plus milk drink, Nesquik cereals and Fitness cereals. The popular Nesquik Team together with Quicky the mascot are also welcoming children on board every weekend.

The international floating bookshop LOGOS II, which is currently berthed at the Valletta Waterfront until 30 March 2007 is operated by Educational Book Exhibits Ltd., a non-profit charity organization with an all-volunteer crew of 200 young people representing over 45 nations.

“Our association with this innovative initiative stems from our belief that education and healthy nutrition go hand in hand,” said a spokesperson for Nestlé Malta. “This project has been widely acclaimed as a genuine expression of international understanding and good will, sharing a diversity of culture and promoting education. Nestlé, through its wellness programme is actively involved in educating both children and parents about the importance of nutritional food and this has spurred Nestlé Malta to support this educational event that every year draws thousands of visitors on board.”

Since 1989 the Logos II has visited more than 290 different ports in more than 76 countries and has welcomed over 8 million visitors on board and is a significant attraction in most of the ports she goes to.

Logos II and its sister ship MV Doulos have visited Malta on a number of occasions. The visit is also a homecoming – Logos II is registered in Malta and flies the island’s maritime flag around the world.

In each port the ship visits, time is given to social and community work, and the current Logos II visit to Malta is no exception. Crew are partnering with local organisation Sedqa (the national agency against drug and alcohol abuse) to promote a healthy lifestyle.

In addition to perusing the selection of 5,000 different titles, there are many other reasons for local residents and tourists to visit Logos II. Colourful and fun events specifically designed with families in mind will take place on board each weekend. Other programmes in which the crew will present their many and diverse cultures are also planned.

Opening hours are 10am to 10pm from Tuesday to Saturday and 2pm to 10pm on Sunday and Monday. The entrance fee is 20c. Entrance for children under 12 accompanied by an adult is free.
