National Youth Day has come and gone, with several activities being held by the government and youth organisations to mark the occasion.

The media have given extensive coverage to most of the events that took place and I must say that, from what I have seen, there was little participation by young people.

I think that most young people today are more concerned with how they will be entertaining themselves over the weekend – and perhaps during the week too – rather than involve themselves in such activities.

It is a pity because the activities were, after all, earmarked for them.
