Mepa Updates design and policy guidance

Malta Independent Tuesday, 3 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) said yesterday it has updated and published design and policy guidance document DC2007, an updated version of DC2005, which it replaces. The document is used mostly by architects and those connected with the construction industry.

It brings together 136 policies under 17 chapters. The main changes involve not only the inclusion of amendments to policies, but also two new sections. In Section 16, DC2007 brings up to date policies in the light of the newly approved Local Plans. Section 17 can mainly be considered as a transition clause relative to applications submitted prior to the approval of the Local Plans.

The subjects in DC2007 range from general principles on architectural design, policies regarding size and height limitation, internal development, urban improvement fund and penthouses.

DC2007 will come into effect on 16 April. Copies of the document are on sale at MEPA and may be downloaded from the website www.mepa.org.mt
