The K. Wayne Snipes Award

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

The Board and members of the local ISACA chapter were rewarded for their hard work and efforts of the past three years when they were informed that they had achieved the best small chapter for Europe and Africa area award. It seems that competition was fierce this year but the Malta chapter still managed to win it. Alan Alden (president), Anthony Formosa (secretary) and Alexander Camilleri (treasurer) from the Board were invited to Vienna, between 16 and 18 March, to collect the coveted prize on behalf of the local chapter and also to attend the yearly funded President Chapter’s Meetings. The president of the Malta Chapter also gave a presentation to over 50 presidents of the various regional chapters on the successes and failures of the Malta chapter.

The K. Wayne Snipes Award was established in 1989 to recognise chapters that demonstrate excellence in service to their members and their communities. Performance is assessed on several criteria. The ISACA Malta chapter has grown to over 80 members in just two years with over 30 certified CISAs, even though IS Auditing is a very specialised area requiring specific expertise. The majority of the members have sat for the CISA examination in the past three years (exams were available before the chapter was recognised in March 2005).

In December 2006 the Chapter was very pleased to register the first four persons to pass the CISM examination. In June 2006 there were nine who passed the CISA examination, in December 2006 there were seven passers of CISA and four passers of the CISM examination. The successful candidates in CISM are: Charles Mifsud, Martin Camilleri, Stefan Galea and Pierre André Aquilina.

A reception will be held on 12 April for members and guests to present an award to the achievers of the CISA certification in 2006.
