Court: Libyan Pleads guilty to damaging car

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Abduraouf I. R. Beleed pleaded guilty, before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, to damaging a car belonging to Alfred Peregin in Pembroke on 8 April at around 5.45am.

In his testimony, prosecuting inspector Carmelo Abdilla said that Beleed told the police that he thought the car was his, had locked the keys inside and, as a result, was trying to force open the door.

Alfred Peregrin, the owner of the damaged car, told the court that the damages amounted to Lm300.

However, Beleed’s defence lawyer Martin Fenech said that his client did not have money to pay for the damages he caused.

As a result, magistrate Apap Bologna adjourned for judgment on 16 April and remanded Beleed in custody to give him a chance to collect money to pay for the damage caused.

Police inspector Carmelo Abdilla prosecuted and Dr Martin Fenech appeared for Beleed.
