A court yesterday ordered a ground steward from Valletta Football Club not to approach football stadiums for a year after he pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and insulting police officers during a football match between Marsaxlokk and Valletta on Sunday.

George Bruno, 41, from Sliema pleaded guilty, before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, to disobeying police orders, resisting arrest and insulting police officers at the national football ground in Ta’ Qali at about 8pm on Sunday.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching public peace and using vulgar language in public.

Magistrate Apap Bologna heard Bruno’s guilty plea and conditionally discharged him for six months, also ordering him to stay away from football grounds for a year.

Police inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted and Dr Anthony Farrugia appeared for Bruno.
