Television Malta, the national television station, and Calypso Radio, were each fined Lm1,000 after the Broadcasting Authority found them guilty of breaching the Broadcasting Act.

Two TVM cases involved breaches during the programme 118. In both cases, the authority found 118 guilty of mentioning the establishment from which the programme was being filmed and the brand name of the wine being used. These programmes were broadcast on 20 and 22 February. The station was fined Lm500 in respect of each programme.

In its decision, the authority said that the same programme had already been found guilty of breaching the Broadcasting Act. Moreover, it said the station’s representatives had not even bothered to attend the

sitting at which the case was being heard.

With regard to Calypso Radio 101.8, the authority found the station guilty of breaching the Broadcasting Act when, on 5 and 6 March, it broadcast a programme from a particular establishment and presenters made remarks of an advertising nature about the business. The Broadcasting Authority fined the station Lm500 in respect of each programme.
