Court: Judicial Protest against ‘Juice’ magazine

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The exclusive local importer of Alyce Designs Inc. evening dresses has filed a judicial protest against the editor and publisher of Juice magazine, after they published photographs and advertisements of evening dresses designed and manufactured by the company without the authorisation of the importer.

Owner of Aphrodite, Bridal and Formal Wear Eleonora Cini filed a judicial protest against magazine editor Nadine Cini, publisher Ray Galea and Michelle Vella, being the author of the published photographs and advertisements.

In the judicial protest, Ms Cini claimed that Alyce Designs Inc. is the copyright holder of all the designs and dresses appearing in the published photographs, the use of which in the magazine had never been authorised.

It was claimed that the published photographs on page 13 of the first issue of Juice magazine are therefore in breach of the company’s copyright and property rights.

By way of the judicial protest, Ms Cini held the editor and publisher of the magazine responsible and called on the court to order them to pay compensation for the damages the company had sustained and publish a correction in the next issue.

Dr Pawlu Lia signed the writ.
