Spring Fête At Msida Bastion Garden of Rest

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Din l-Art Helwa will be holding its annual Spring Fête at the historic Msida Bastion Garden of Rest on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.

The fête offers the public a unique opportunity to admire this garden in full bloom and enjoy its splendid tranquil location, nestling in the heart of the 17th century bastions overlooking Marsamxett. The garden is cared for by DLH volunteers throughout the year and funds raised from the fête will be dedicated to its maintenance.

The garden has exotic and indigenous plants and trees and is set among exquisite early 19th-century neo-classical monuments commemorating important personalities who died in Malta during the early British period between 1803 and 1857. Din l-Art Helwa won the 2001 Silver Medal from Europa Nostra for its excellent restoration of this site. Tours of the garden will be held at 1pm and 2pm.

Fund-raising stalls will be set up in the garden, selling plants, books, gifts, cakes and other items, and refreshments will be available on the terraces.

The Garden of Rest is best reached by taking the first turning left on Great Siege Road near the Phoenicia Hotel, then turning left again past the Public Library below Belt is-Sebh.
