Holiday periods always tend to be busy times for English language schools, giving students the possibility to travel to Malta for a full-immersion English language experience. Students of all ages travelled to Malta over the recent Easter period with the aim of developing their English language skills and one student in particular proved that age is not a barrier to venture into such experiences.

Japanese student Hisako Yabu was born on 8 February 1918 and at the ripe age of 89, she still decided to visit our islands with the aim of improving her English!

Hisako formed part of a group of students from Japan who shared the same wish of learning English. This group travelled all the way from Osaka (a journey of 20 hours’ duration) to enjoy a one-week tour of the Maltese archipelago with Chamber College. The students were thrilled to visit the popular sites of Valletta, Mdina and Gozo, having a taste of Maltese traditions while practising their English.

The student’s host family was impressed by the positive attitude and the excitement shown by Ms Yabu despite her advanced age. According to the host mother, Hisako Yabu was always looking forward to participate in the excursions and was always eager to practise English and learn more about the language. Needless to say, the student was also excited about her English lessons and the teacher was pleased to note Hisako’s enthusiastic participation in class.

Chamber College is pleased to contribute towards the positive brand image of the Maltese islands. Experiences such as Hisako Yabu’s surely add to the popularity of Malta abroad and generate more interest in our islands.
