Floriana Fireworks festival winners announced

The Sant’ Indrija Socjetà Muzikali Unjoni of Luqa won the first edition of the fireworks festival that was organised by the Floriana local council on Saturday. Fourteen fireworks factories took part in the competition.

The category for the best mechanism was won by the same society, while the category for the best work with the use of chains was won by the St Joseph Fireworks Factory of Kirkop. The category for the best products used was also won by the Luqa factory, while the category for the best original piece was won by the St Mary Fireworks Factory of Ghaxaq.

The Madonna tal-Gilju factory of Mqabba was the favourite among those who voted via sms.

The jury was composed of fireworks experts from England, Italy and Sweden, under the chairmanship of the Maltese Pyrotechnics Association secretary Joe Theuma.

Floriana deputy mayor Franco Davies presented the prizes.
