Four university students are participating in the Goldener Kentaur Award organised by the Munich House of Artists.

The participation of the students at this prestigious award was made possible through the collaboration of the Maltese Embassy in Germany and Lufthansa Technik.

The Munich House of Artists in cooperation with the Munich Academy of Art and the Helsinki University of Art and Design as asked the University of Malta and a university from every EU member state, to submit four works by their students for the award.

The four Maltese students, under the guidance of Dr Raphael Vella are Kristina Borg, Ian Coleiro, Lucienne Lughermo and Adrian Scicluna.

The Maltese Embassy in Berlin was asked to facilitate the participation of the Maltese students and asked Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg to help by sponsoring the flights for the Maltese participants.

Aage Dunhaupt, Director for International Communications of Lufthansa Technik immediately reacted positively and arranged for the sponsorship of the flights of the Maltese students.

Jean Paul Grech, Maltese Ambassador in Germany, said that the positive reply by Lufthansa Technik shows that the company’s commitment in Malta is not only limited to investment in Malta’s air industry, but extends further to support even cultural activities, particularly where young artists are involved.

Lufthansa Technik has been cooperating successfully with Air Malta since 2003 and its subsidiary in Malta has been performing C-checks on smaller A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. Recently, the company announced further investment in Malta up to e60 million on new aircraft maintenance facilities which will be inaugurated in 2008 and will eventually offer 550 new jobs.
