Netball: Wins For Kerygma Kaizers, Kerygma Banjos and M’Scala

Malta Independent Thursday, 26 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Netball Competitions continued with three matches from the U/21 League, where Kerygma Kaizers, Kerygma Banjos, and M’Scala Angels all registered good wins.

Kerygma Kaizers 18

All Ages Too 14

As expected this opening match was closely contested where Kerygma Kaizers stopped All Ages Too’s string of positive results.

Although both teams lacked accuracy in their shots throughout the match, it was Kerygma Kaizers who had a slightly better start winning the first quarter 5 - 4.

In the second quarter, All Ages Too failed to keep up their good rhythm permitting their opponents to widen the gap in score to five shots half way through the match.

In the third quarter, All Ages Too showed better co-ordination and determination and managed to win this fraction by one shot.

The last quarter provided the most excitement when six minutes to the end of the match, All Ages Too managed to reduce their deficit to only one shot. Kerygma Kaizers however kept their nerve and not only held on to their minimal advantage but with determination increased their final lead to four shots thus handing All Ages Too their first defeat.

Kerygma Banjos 47

Mosta Auto Dealer 22

Kerygma Banjos registered an easy win against Mosta Auto Dealer NRG who ultimately failed to even salvage at least one point.

In fact Kerygma Banjos immediately took command of the game opening an eleven shot lead by the end of the first quarter.

Although Mosta Auto Dealer NRG courageously fought on they were never in a position to threaten their opponents who kept dictating play to widen the gap in score to nineteen shots mid-way through the match.

The team changes effected by Kerygma Banjos in the subsequent quarter had no ill-effects as they kept up their fast pace and dominating play.

In the last quarter Kerygma Banjos suffered an injury and had to play with a player less. Mosta Auto Dealer NRG failed to rise to the occasion and although they managed to win this fraction by two shots it still was not enough for them to take home at least one point from this encounter.

New Ages Devils 29

M’Scala Angels 33

This last encounter turned out to be an interesting affair as both teams provided a good performance and a balanced match.

New Ages Devils had the better start when by the end of the first quarter they managed to put their noses in front by one shot.

However as they returned for the subsequent quarter, M'Scala Angels increased their efforts and their determination paid off when they managed to tie the match 14 - 14.

In the third quarter M’Scala Angels brought out their aggressiveness and precision in shots, which till now were lacking thus managing to gain the lead for the first time.

New Ages Devils still believed in the possibility of turning the match in their favour and intensified their play. Their determination permitted them to narrow the gap to only two shots but in the last few minutes of the game, M’Scala Angels showed better shooting skills and consolidated a hard-earned victory.
