Senglea A 3

Mqabba 1

Mqabba’s promotion dreams were dealt a severe blow yesterday when they were beaten by a spirited Senglea side.

Senglea fully deserved this victory playing one of their best matches so far this season.

On the other hand Mqabba who needed the three points at stake failed miserably in this decisive match.

Mqabba were very erratic yesterday, even missing a penalty through one of their best players Albert Busuttil.

In the second half substitute Gilbert Scerri was rather unlucky when he well taken shot from outside the area hit the upright.

Mqabba started like a house on fire with John Paul Muscat going close after two minutes with a well taken header.

However Senglea took the lead on 15 minutes through a Dozie scorcher that gave Calleja no chance.

On 41 minutes Mqabba lost their best chance when Busuttil hit against the base of the upright a penalty awarded for a foul on Briffa.

On 54 minute John Paul Muscat obtained the equaliser with a good shot from the edge of the area.

However three minutes later senglea were back in front through Timothy Thomas after a Sciberras pass.

Nine minutes from time Thomas obtained his brace after a great solo run by Dozie.

Mqabba’s lead is now cut to three points with the direct clash against Tarxien in the offing.

Mosta 1

Vittoriosa S 2

Two late penalties gave Vittoriosa Stars a narrow victory over Mosta, in a typical end of season match.

Both sides are free from trouble in the lower part of the tabe, but the match still failed to lift much from mediocrity level.

The first shot at goal came only on 28 minutes with Mosta’s deguara hitting wide direct from a freekick.

Vittoriosa’s first shot at goal came from Anywanna on 39 minutes, and just before the break Ryan deguara crossed to Ewurun whose close range shot was saved by Cassar.

The second half offered no better fare than the first, but Mosta forged ahead on 73 minutes thanks to an unlucky own goal by Howard Hughes.

However eight minutes later Hughes made amends when he made his way inside the area, only to be floored by Galea. From the resultant penalty Anywanna made no mistake.

The same Anywanna was unlucky minutes later when his shot hit the base of the upright.

In stoppage time Vittoriosa won another penalty for a handling infringement and Trevor Thomas made no mistake to give Vittoriosa the victory.
