UHM Orders industrial action at Maltapost

Malta Independent Tuesday, 15 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Public Entities section of the Union Haddiema Maghqudin has told workers at Maltapost not to process door-to-door material with effect from today.

The reason given was that operators were often getting injured due to the heavy weights of packages and the strains they caused.

The union said it had complained in this regard on various occasions, but the calls were not heeded as door-to-door work actually increased rather than decreased and no risk assessment report was ever compiled.

The union said it could not accept the situation in which workers were being exposed to health and safety risks at the workplace. This was all explained to members and industrial action was ordered.
