The acceptance of Malta into the eurozone was a result of the success of government initiatives and the contribution made by constituted bodies, unions and society in general, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.

Although some people had been sceptical, the European Commission confirmed that the country has made great strides forward, Dr Gonzi told representatives of constituted bodies at a working breakfast.

History has shown that the Maltese people had once again been able to reach surprising levels of quality.

The euro convergence report on Malta was a positive and encouraging message that showed that nothing could stop the Maltese people from improving their quality of life.
