BOV Sponsors extension of the National Portrait Archives

The National Portrait Archive, housed at the Banca Giuratale in Mdina recently received over 30 portraits by master portrait photographer Tony S. Mangion MOM. This initiative forms part of the National Memory Project, managed by the National Archives. The new portraits were financed by Bank of Valletta.

The National Portrait Archives is custodian to the largest collection of portraits of Maltese personalities. Dedicated to the study of portraits of people who have written their name in the history books of our islands, it features images of renowned personalities across a cross-section of fields.

The Bank’s sponsorship was presented by Charles Borg, executive head within the CEO’s office at Bank of Valletta to Tony Mangion in the presence of national archivist Charles Farrugia, during a courtesy visit paid to the National Portrait Archives in Mdina.

National Archivist Charles Farrugia underlined the importance of keeping the National Portrait Archives up-to-date with portraits of various Maltese personalities. “Viewed in its totality, this assemblage of images brings together the protagonists that have marked decades of our recent history,” he said.
