The Long asbestos saga of Enemalta workers

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Malta Independent on Sunday refers to the article entitled “The long asbestos saga of Enemalta workers” carried on 10 December 2006 in which it was alleged that a foreign company was called in by Enemalta Corporation to complete asbestos removal works that were undertaken by a Maltese contractor known as “Tal-Pikless”.

This newspaper has verified the facts and, while regretting any inconvenience which the said article might have caused D.D.E. Attard Limited – a company owned by the Attard brothers known as “Tal-Pikless” and which carries out this type of operations – notes that in actual fact the said company had been called in to finish off certain work that was meant to be carried out by foreign contractors, and not the other way round.

This newspaper acknowledges that no contractor, local or foreign, has been commissioned by Enemalta to remedy or complete any asbestos removal operation undertaken by D.D.E. Attard Limited.

This declaration is being published on the understanding that a libel suit that has been filed by D.D.E. Attard Limited against this newspaper will be withdrawn.
