Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Following Thursday’s accident at the Marsa Power Station, where seven employees were hospitalised due to the burns sustained, four employees were dismissed yesterday morning soon after being treated for shock and minor burns, Enemalta said yesterday.

In a press release issued late last night, the corporation said that regarding the other employees who sustained injuries, one was admitted to the Burns Unit early yesterday afternoon to continue receiving the necessary treatment, while another employee, who had originally been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday evening, has improved significantly and has also been transferred to the Burns Unit.

An engineer still remains recovered at the ITU. His condition on Thursday night had originally been described as “critical”, however his state has improved considerably and his condition is now being described as “serious but stable”. The engineer was also allowed to speak to his family and Enemalta officials.

Enemalta Corporation said it has set up a Board of Inquiry in order to investigate the causes of the incident and also to recommend appropriate preventive action to ensure such incidents are not repeated.

The corporation also expressed gratitude to all the emergency services for their professionalism and for taking immediate action.
