Victoria Clarinet Quartet Performs in Gozo

Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Sentinella Hall, Cittadella, Victoria, Gozo, was the perfect venue for a chamber concert by the Victoria Clarinet Quartet as part of Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana, a weekend of events organised by the Ministry for Gozo and the Ministry for Tourism and Culture.

The first part of the concert started with works of Entry of the Gladiators by Fucik, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart), Suite l-Arlesienne (Bizet) and Hungarian Dance No. Five (Brahms). The relaxed style of the talented quartet and their own enjoyment of the music conveyed itself to the audience and they thoroughly deserved their applause especially after performing the overture William Tell by Rossini.

Other works included Samba from South to the Sun (Lewin), Oh Lady be Good (Gershwin), The Entertainer (Joplin) and Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin).

During the second part of the concert, the young Michael Camilleri on drum kit joined the other members of the clarinet quartet to perform several works of pop music and movie soundtracks. These included Italian Medley, Morricone’s Melody, Mission Impossible, Yesterday, Forever ABBA Gold, and the Pink Panther theme.

The concert came to a grand finale with the performance of works by Carmelo Pace (L-Imnarja) and as an encore, Vittorio Monti’s Czardas.
