The High Commissioner for the Republic of South Africa, Lenin Shope, spoke about a number of business and investment opportunities that can be tapped into by businessmen and entrepreneurs during a seminar held at the Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise in Valletta.

The seminar was attended by the Chamber’s vice-president Charles M. Mercieca, director-general Kevin J. Borg, and a number of participants from various business sectors.

The High Commissioner said that over the last 12 years the South African economy has been stabilised and today the government is in a position to embark on major infrastructural projects and initiatives.

With a population of 46.9 million in a country four times bigger than Italy, South Africa’s GDP growth rate is at a significant 5.1 per cent. Foreign direct investment is in the region of USD6.3 billion per annum while tourist arrivals hit the 8.4 million mark last year.
