A man was jailed for 18 months suspended for four years after he was found guilty of causing trouble at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium more than two years ago.

Clayton Galea, 23, from Floriana, was found guilty of hurling stadium seats at the police and at other people at the ground during the Floriana versus Valletta football match on 23 April 2005.

He was also found guilty of slightly injuring and attempting to seriously injure Police Assistant Commissioner Josie Brincat, damaging seats to the detriment of the Malta Football Association, resisting the police and disobeying their orders, breaching the peace and swearing in public. He was also found guilty of relapsing.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman heard the man plead guilty to the charges brought against him but only during the last sitting. She jailed him for 18 months suspended for four years and disqualified him from entering any ground for a period of two years.

Police Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.
