PN Donation for trees

Malta Independent Wednesday, 6 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Nationalist Party general secretary Joe Saliba yesterday made a donation of Lm1,500 on behalf of the party for trees to be planted at Foresta 2000 in Mellieha, where vandals last month destroyed 3,000 newly planted saplings.

He told Environment Minister George Pullicino, to whom he presented the cheque, that the donation was proof of the PN’s commitment for the environment. Membership in the PN was also linked with the environmental 34U campaign, he added – the PN was donating trees according to the number of new members who joined.

The scheme was launched in September and in November the first 103 trees in the scheme were planted at the national park in Ta’ Qali.

Mr Pullicino said that by the end of this week they hoped to achieve the aim of raising enough money to plant double the number of trees that were destroyed.
