The police had other work to do on Monday, apart from helping in rain-caused problems for the public – from early afternoon till late at night they were conducting personal searches on young people attending a party in the limits of Mellieha.

Their searches were not fruitless – five young persons were found to be in possession of ecstasy or cannabis.

The police said the five – four young men and a young woman, all aged between 17 and 20 – were from Attard, San Gwann, Zabbar, and Naxxar. They were held for further questioning.

Four of them were carrying the drug for their personal use but one had a quantity that was intended to be trafficked during the party, the police said.

They are to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
