World Environment Day: Melting Ice – a hot topic

Malta Independent Thursday, 7 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Finance Ministry together with the Rural Affairs and the Environment Ministry, and St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, organised an interactive workshop for primary school children. This activity was held at St James Cavalier.

Children were divided into four workshops representing the four seasons, with the groups’ underlying themes being Biodiversity and Climate Change. Children were encouraged to participate by expressing their experience on how climate change is affecting their immediate environment through art and craft.

The St James Consort, which is supported by the Good Causes Fund and The Manoel Theatre, performed Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with images projected on screen of how global warming is affecting our climate. During this performance, the children were encouraged to express their views through drawing.

Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech and Minister George Pullicino were present to address the participating pupils and answer their questions.

Mr Fenech presented a cheque to Mr Pullicino as a contribution from the departments and entities within the Finance Ministry towards the replacement of the trees recently vandalised in Mellieha.
