50 Years of scouting at Stella Maris College

Malta Independent Thursday, 28 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Stella Maris College Scout Group is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark this event, a Thanksgiving Mass is being celebrated by Fr Ray Scicluna in the college grounds on Sunday at 9.30am, to be followed by a church parade around the vicinity of the school grounds in Gzira. In attendance will be eight other North District Scout groups, three of which have bands. In all, there will be more than 600 scouts taking part.

Fifty years have passed since the first group flag was blessed and then presented by Bro James (college director at the time) to the first Scout Master, the late Mr Crockford. It was then that the first 13 scouts were invested.

Since then the group has developed. With the initiative of some of the female staff in the Junior school the pack was opened. Today the group has flourished and has now become co-ed.
