Business Breakfast with EU Commissioner Viviane Reding

Malta Independent Friday, 6 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

“Most of the issues currently being faced by the local IT and communications industry are directly related to competition issues which arise from a market which is still in its infancy insofar as liberalisation is concerned,” the president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, Victor A. Galea said at a Business Breakfast held at The Exchange, where the main guest was EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding.

Mr Galea thanked Commissioner Reding for accepting the chamber’s invitation to hear from the stakeholders, the issues the Information Technology and Telecommunications industry is facing in a limited market such as the one in Malta.

He added that the chamber represents operators in the local telecoms sector almost in their entirety and these stakeholders were all invited for this meeting with Commissioner Reding.

The president expressed the hope that the discussion – although surely not conclusive – will help to shed more light on the current state of affairs of the Maltese IT and telecommunications industry.

“The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise is always there to support and facilitate any idea, activity or initiative which is geared to address a solution to problems, to threats and opportunities being faced by this sector,” he concluded.
