Bulgaria is the most popular tourist destination among the new country-members in the EU.
For the period June to September of last year, the average number of nights spent by local and foreign tourists amounted to BGN11.6 million (EUR5.8 million), an increase of 3.1 per cent compared to 2005.
Malta takes first place with 97 per cent of foreign tourists, followed by Luxembourg – 95 per cent and Cyprus – 91 per cent.
