Seabed Of St George’s Bay gets a much needed clean-up

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Late last month, management, guests, employees and beach operators at the Corinthia San Gorg and Marina Resort put on their diving gear to carry out a thorough clean up of the St George’s Bay seabed, and cleared waste material that filled three huge skips.

The activity was held as a follow up to the hotel’s recent accreditation with MTA’s Eco Certification. Diving equipment was sponsored by Star Fish Diving Centre, while Sun & Fun and Pembroke Boat Centre provided speedboats to load and unload the garbage collected from the seabed. Volunteers on shore helped to separate and dispose of the material.

Visiting the site, Minister for Tourism Dr Francis Zammit Dimech was full of praise for the initiative and pledged his wholehearted support to any similar activity that stands to benefit all concerned. He urged other operators to follow suit.

On their part, Resort general manager Nicholas Borg, Corinthia Marina manager Mario Debattista and operations manager Joseph Vella promised their full commitment to the adoption of environment friendly measures and to carry out such events on a regular basis throughout the Resort in the future.
