Illegal Dumping next to Ggantija removed

Malta Independent Monday, 16 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Gozo enforcement section of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) recently intervened in a case of illegal dumping within the Ggantija buffer zone.

In April, Mepa was informed that illegal dumping was taking place in an old quarry north of Ggantija and close to an olive grove – both within the buffer zone.

The owner of the field was approached and after several requests by the Gozo enforcement section, stopped the illegal dumping and restore the field to its original status.

A few months ago, Unesco requested Mepa to report on measures to curb illegalities within the Ggantija buffer zone. A detailed report was submitted through the Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry and Mepa Director-General.
