A 55-year-old man was yesterday charged with seriously injuring his wife at their house in Luqa on the night between 7 and 8 May.
Godfrey Slattery pleaded not guilty to assaulting his wife Rosaria, causing partial permanent disfigurement to her face.
Testifying in court, she said that following the incident, she tried seeking help by rushing to the Luqa police station. Finding that it was closed, she braved the stillness of the night and walked all the way to the police station in Paola.
The man was also accused of breaching the peace and threatening his wife that he would use violence against her.
Magistrate Doreen Clark presided over the court. Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted. Dr Jose Herrera and Dr Veronique Dalli appeared for the accused.
