Birzebbuga Water polo pitch

Malta Independent Sunday, 12 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As an interested resident, I have read with much interest all the correspondence regarding the subject. I have also tried to mediate between the interested parties, but with no success; not from the resident’s part I must say.

Ms Bonnici once again contributed to the subject in last Sunday’s publication, but I did not appreciate the tone of her letter at all. Why did she have to attack Mr Caruana personally? Mr Caruana always backed his arguments with facts and figures, which to date have not been contested neither by any government entity, nor by anybody else for that matter. I think that such things are uncalled for, and render the subject stupid.

As regards the kiosk in question, can someone please explain to me what the fuss is all about? Does one really need a kiosk on street level to run a water polo club? The “committee” never even applied for one. (That is what we were told. Apparently, it was MEPA that “suggested it” in the first place)

Personally, I do not see a valid reason for it to be built. Or is there a hidden agenda we residents do not know about? I wonder! If there is a need for a snack bar, it should be at pool level, and never on top of the clubhouse. What if a youngster wanders up there unattended, and finishes up on the busy road? We adults should work to prevent such accidents especially when dealing with kids. After all, that is what the club should be aiming to achieve.

Finally, I hope that common sense prevails in the long run, and the project will be a success and to everyone’s satisfaction.

A. Borg
