Valletta Stairs by candlelight

Malta Independent Tuesday, 14 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Valletta turned elegant and stylish for last Friday’s BOV Streets Alive, the fourth in a series of six consecutive Fridays.

Last week’s events included an exhibition of classic cars in Freedom Square, featuring some of the finest vehicles to be built in the early half of the 20th century. The Main Guard in Palace Square served as a backdrop for a stunning display of Ferrari cars – a truly fascinating show for all enthusiasts of the ultimate status symbols of wealth and style. The Casino Maltese provided the perfect setting for a ballroom dancing show in which highly trained dancers gave an elegant display of Latin and classical dancing styles, and the Old Opera House site saw the start of this year’s Etnika.

Meanwhile, some of Valletta’s most romantic stepped streets – namely St Ursula Street, St John’s Street, Sta Lucia Street, East Street and Barbara Bastions – will host Valletta Stairs By Candlelight, setting a romantic mood for the fifth BOV Streets Alive this Friday.

At 8.30pm, the Denner Clarinet Quartet will present Musica Sotto Voce in Great Siege Square and the Bridge Bar on Victoria Gate Bridge will host the popular Bridge Bar Jazz Sessions, thus complementing an evening in style.

BOV Streets Alive is organised by the Valletta Alive Foundation and supported by Bank of Valletta. It is also supported by Tourism and Culture Ministry, the Malta Tourism Authority and Allied Newspapers.

As in past weeks, the BOV Streets Alive will also include themed treasure hunts, which will start from City Gate, as well as discounted karozzin rides touring Valletta’s fortifications.
