A 60-year-old man was yesterday placed under house arrest after he pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring his former partner.

Francis Ebejer, from Sliema, pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring his former partner and mother of his children, Justine Aquilina, on Sunday at around 8pm.

He also pleaded not guilty, before presiding Magistrate Lawrence Quintano, to causing up to Lm1,000 worth of damage to her car.

Mr Ebejer was also charged with insulting and threatening Ms Aquilina and breaching the peace.

Defence lawyer Dr Edward Gatt told the court that Mr Ebejer allegedly attacked Ms Aquilina after he went to her residence in St Julian’s to see his children and became angry at what he saw there.

Magistrate Quintano granted Mr Ebejer bail and placed him under house arrest against a Lm400 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm2,000.

He also issued a note to the director of Agenzija Appogg whereby Mr Ebejer will be placed under the supervision of an Appogg worker to help him through anger management.

Magistrate Quintano also ordered Mr Ebejer not to approach the witnesses.

Police Inspector Carmelo Abdilla prosecuted and Dr Edward Gatt appeared for Mr Ebejer.
