Music: A Night at the theatre: Queen vs the Beatles - A one-off concert

Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Before you even start to think about it – No! This is not one of those MTV Celebrity Death Match episodes! It is a one-off concert packed with a lengthy list of memorable songs by legendary British bands Queen and Liverpool’s finest, The Beatles. The ‘versus’ part is really only there to instil a little competitive edge both onstage and among the audience and offstage. The music will be performed by two bands, namely The Miracle & Friends (playing Queen songs, obviously!) and The Bristles, who I honestly think have one of the best Fab Four tribute band names ever, will be performing tunes from The Beatles repertoire.

The plan to put together a concert featuring these two bands was first hatched at a Bristles concert. Not by the band itself, but by two members of The Miracle who were present in the crowd that night. Pitching their Queen repertoire against the Beatles catalog performed by The Bristles, the idea may not be the most innovative, but there’s no denying it will make a hell of a concert, especially given that extra attention is being given to the stage set-up and detail to make this a spectacular display of sound, light and vision!

The Miracle & Friends are Josef ‘Fofi’ Farrugia (keyboards), Abigail Brown (keyboards), Trevor Abela Fiorentino (bass), Eric Camilleri (guitar) and Patrick Camilleri (drums). Vocal duties will be performed by Patrick Vella, Tiziana Calleja, Ruth Farrugia, Neville Refalo and Kartridge frontman Daryl Ebejer. The Bristles are Aldo (guitars, vocals), Mark (bass, vocals), Charlie Paletti (guitars, vocals) and Ray Hamiemu (drums). The concert will take place on Friday 12 October at the Metanoia Theatre in Luqa. Entrance costs Lm4.50. For more info, call 2180-6712 or visit www.skene-online.info.
