Ira Losco has been performing outside our shores in between recording her fifth studio album and preparing a DVD release at the end of this year. Following her outstanding performance with Gigi D’Alessio in Taormina on 23 September, she returned to Italy as the only foreign artist included in the three day O’Scia Festival line up in Lampedusa.

The Festival featured some of Italy’s best artists including Alex Britti, Le Vibrazzioni, Paolo Bonolis, I Neri Per Caso, Pino Daniele, Eugenio Bennato, Fabio Concato, the inimitable Laura Pausini and of course Claudio Baglioni .

The O’Scia Project aims at promoting awareness of human rights, especially in light of the problem facing the increase of irregular migration affecting countries too small to handle such an influx. Claudio Baglioni and his partner Rossella Barattolo, also spokesperson for the O’Scia Project, together with NnG Promotions, included Malta as one of their countries to host one of their awareness concerts last August. Following her powerful performance they both expressed their wish to include Ira Losco in their next show.

Ira Losco started her live set accompanied by Claudio Baglioni’s band and her own guitarist Adam ‘Bones’ Bonello, performing her own original songs. She then invited Claudio Baglioni himself to play the pianoforte while she mesmerised the audience present with her touching rendition of Mia Martini’s Almeno Tu Nell’ Universo.

Presenting this high profile concert was no other than Rossella Brescia, more famous as Italy’s most prominent dancer, who is also one of Amici’s team. Although Lampedusa is a small island the logistics were handled to perfection and a big entourage was flown in specifically for this concert. Big names from the Italian press who attended this prestigious event included Mediaset, Rai and Corriere della Sera.
