Of Dinosaurs and other fantasies

From Mr T. Farrugia

The piece by Charles Flores (TMIS, 30 September) reminded me of the Aesop fable about the miller, his son and their donkey who, on their way to the market, tried to please everyone but ended up pleasing nobody.

It is a harsh fact of life that whatever you do in this world, there is bound to be a busybody who will misinterpret your intentions or actions. Mr Flores postulates that in a matter of a few hours the whole population of St George’s parish somehow plotted to put up a façade of acceptance regarding the change of their archpriest in order to put the parishioners of the other parish of Victoria in a bad light, and their band club in particular.

This is as absurd as it is preposterous; frankly it beggars belief that one’s fertile fantasies can go to such lengths to distort the truth. It is the kind of spin that Alistair Campbell would have been proud of. It only proves that in life you just have to do what is right, and then take the inevitable flak in your stride.

The fact is that Msgr Joseph Farrugia did the right thing, and that his parishioners followed his exemplary behaviour, however surprised, shocked even, they may have been.

The proper conclusion your columnist should have drawn was that the sudden turn of events reflects the true nature of the protagonists involved.
