Police Presence in St Julian’s

Malta Independent Sunday, 7 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

From Mr D. Crockford

Writing on behalf of the Police Commissioner, WPC 101 R. Grima focused her reply on the feast at St Julian’s and the work involved during local feasts! We have a very organised festa here and never do I recall any major problems with anybody, unlike some other localities! The various committees are highly disciplined and ensure that everything runs smoothly to the satisfaction of the police, enthusiasts and visitors!

May I remind your correspondent that her comments about Paceville made me more aware of the sorry situation we residents have to put with throughout the year i.e. 52 weeks! Should we clap our hands in glee at the fact that there are more police on Friday, Saturday and Sunday? What about the other days? Does the locality go silent? Or are we expected to have our share of sleepless nights on every single day!

St Julian’s is NOT only just Paceville... I would have preferred reading about what action, if any, is taken against defaulters.

Are closing times adhered to? Has Legal Notice 1 of 2006 been brought to the officers’ attention? I doubt it!

Please note that I am not writing against any particular members of the corps. I was brought up to respect them and I have written previously about the sterling work being carried out by the drug squad, ALE and others who work with great dedication and in dangerous situations! To these our gratitude!
