The Voices of Pembroke Choir from Wales last week gave a concert at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in San Pawl tat-Targa, to celebrate the twinning programme between Pembroke Wales and Pembroke Malta that started in 2002.

When addressing the guests at the opening of the event, British High Commissioner Nick Archer said: “This evening celebrates the success of the twinning relationship between Pembroke in Wales and Pembroke in Malta. In recent years, this has provided a framework for an impressive and a continuing pattern of contacts between the people of the two towns.”

The chairman of the twinning committee Aidan Brinn, emphasised the growing momentum that exists in the twinning initiatives between Pembroke Wales and Pembroke Malta: “Being also the chairman of the Pembroke Choir, I am absolutely delighted by the response from the Maltese people, who have attended in large numbers the various concerts held in different venues. This is the first time a choir has visited Malta under this twinning project. Next year, an under-twelves rugby team will be visiting Malta. It has been a great success so far, even though this is only the start of more cultural exchanges in the future.”

Mayor of Pembroke Malta Joe Zammit commented: “The concert held at the High Commissioner’s residence is a portrayal of our strong cultural bond. We have received EU funds under the Twinning for Citizens Programme in order to carry out our cultural exchanges, which also include educational exchanges between schools. Over 2000 people from Pembrokeshire have visited Malta in the past five years due to our twinning programme. Our town has benefited greatly from this project.”
