Teachers Andstationery items

Malta Independent Tuesday, 9 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Some people were quick to rush to their computers to pour scorn over my previous letter, when I dared suggest that schools should be more organised and “send” parents to buy from stationery shops only once during the first week of school.

I do not know whether the people who wrote in are teachers or not, but it seems they were offended that I proposed this. It seems that teachers think that, once they go home from school at 2.30pm and have all the time in the world to spend with their families, we common mortals who finish work at 5pm or later have nothing else to do except to go to buy things for our kids.

All I did was suggest something that every company does. My administration manager does not send me to buy stationery items one by one. But apparently schools think they know better. Or at least they think that parents should be burdened with having to go out shopping every day just for the fun of it.

And, by the way, I have asked the editor not to print my full name because I do fear that my children will be identified and “marked”. Judging by the way some people responded to my previous letter I am now in no doubt that this would happen.
