Heritage Malta Broadens the Caravaggio experience

Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Heritage Malta is launching a number of unique educational programmes on Caravaggio as part of the “Caravaggio L’Immagine del Divino” exhibition at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. This initiative is being taken as part of Heritage Malta’s ongoing commitment to further enhance its educational policies.

The educational activities consist of tailor-made programmes catering for different age groups. Starting on Sunday, there will be regular workshops on various themes related to the Caravaggio Experience which will bring about a greater appreciation of Caravaggio as an artist and his chiaroscuro. The first workshop which will take place between 2pm to 4pm will focus on the theme of St Francis and the natural environment in the works of Caravaggio.

Heritage Malta has available a full colour Caravaggio workbook, which includes biographical information, explanations on Caravaggio’s techniques and various creative educational tasks which can be carried out within the exhibition halls. During the educational workshops young visitors can avail themselves of a guided session during which they can carry out the tasks within these workbooks.

Children are to be accompanied by an adult. Parents can avail themselves of block tickets which allow entry to two adults and two children to the exhibition at a cost of Lm9 (Euro 20.96) thus saving more than 30 per cent on the admission fee.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition schools will be able to organise visits that will give children the opportunity to experience the work of the great painter. All those taking part in these school visits will get a copy of the Caravaggio educational workbook.
