Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

A man who had been found guilty of various crimes over the past year and never took heed of the opportunities he was given was jailed for seven months after being found guilty of attempted theft.

Brian Mallia, 33, from Zabbar, pleaded guilty to attempting to steal more than Lm100 in cash from a pharmacy in Valletta in the afternoon on 1 August 2002. He was also found guilty of relapsing.

Handing down her judgement, magistrate Doreen Clarke noted that Mallia had been found of various crimes in the past, mostly related to thefts.

The court handed down probation periods, a suspended sentence and he even spent some time in jail. However, she added, Mallia never took the opportunity to get his life back on the right track and therefore jailed him for seven months.

Police Inspector Carmelo Magri prosecuted.
