Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Mark Miller’s boys will be in action against Wales this evening.

It will be the fourth match for the Maltese, having conceded three defeats in their previous matches.

In the first match in Malta, Miller’s side lost narrowly to Romania who scored a late goal. After that, they lost 4-0 to Bosnia Herzegovina away and 0-2 to France, again in Malta.

At present, France lead the standings with 10 points from four matches, Romania have seven from three, Bosnia have three points from three, Wales and Malta have no points, but while Malta has played three matches, Wales have played just once, losing 1-0 away to France.

Before leaving Malta, Miller pledged that his boys will continue fighting even if admitting that his squad lacked leadership and character. He said he would be looking for inspiration from the national side’s recent performances to try and instill more confidence in his youngsters.

The English coach has taken the following squad to Wales from which he will select his line-up:

Goalkeepers: Miguel Montfort, Luke Woods.

Defenders: Steven Bezzina, Steve Borg, Jonathan Caruana, Clayton Failla, Tyron Farrugia, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino, Edward Herrera, Duncan Pisani.

Midfielders: Edmond Agius, Matthew Bartolo, Dyson Falzon, Paul Fenech, Ryan Fenech.

Strikers: Stephen Meilak, John Mintoff, Ian Zammit.
