Volleyball: X-Sel Stun Flyers with 3-0 win in Ladies Senior League

Malta Independent Thursday, 18 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

In the ladies senior league, X-Sel surprised all present by winning against Flyers by three sets to zero.

This was really the surprise of the weekend as on paper, and on a better day, Flyers are one of the hardest teams to beat due to their consistent defence and good attacking.

However, Sunday was not Flyers’ day. X-Sel played well through their middle attackers namely Daniela Bonnici and Thais Gatt with a number of good sets provided by Sara El Gazi. Flyers seemed to be dazed with most of their players performing below their usual standards and could not find the strength to react in none of the sets committing many unforced errors.

An easy win for X-Sel and a great start to their season.

In the men’s senior league, Fleur-de-Lys beat Marsascala 3-0. The first set was all in favour of Fleur-de-Lys with Paul Tonna playing well. FDL closed the set 25-12.

The second set was more balanced with Marsascala gaining precious points. However the experience of Fleur-de-Lys proved to be too much and these won the second set 25-19.

Marsascala libero D. Cutajar distinguished himself for Marsascala during the match but the performance of the south-enders was not enough and Fleur-de-Lys won the third and final set 25-20.

After last week’s defeat to Aloysians, Fleur-de-Lys are back to winning ways and took all three points.

In the first girls under 18 match this season, Flyers found no difficulty in winning against a young and inexperienced Paola Hibs with a final score of 2-0.
