Government Denies it is implementing MLP proposals

Malta Independent Thursday, 25 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The government yesterday denied it is implementing what MLP spokesman for foreign affairs and information technology Leo Brincat said had been proposed by the MLP last year.

Speaking after a visit to the careers convention at the University of Malta, Mr Brincat said that the measures being implemented by the government were mentioned in the MLP’s final document on IT, which was approved in January this year but the original draft had been published in August last year.

The Ministry for Investment, Infrastructure and IT said that the measures mentioned by Mr Brincat had been included by the government in its 2004-2006 strategy document, which was published in 2004. The ministry added that Mr Brincat had even criticised the proposed measures in parliament.

Among proposals being put into effect were the creation of an ICT faculty at the university, promoting Malta as a centre for the teaching of IT to foreigners, as was being done in the English language, promotion of the Maltese language on the internet and the promotion of the Global Hub concept with a strong ICT infrastructure.
