The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology celebrated its first Foundation Day yesterday. As from this year, 26 October will be the official MCAST Foundation Day, to be celebrated on the fourth Friday every October.

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology was established in 2000 on the initiative of Education Minister Louis Galea, and accepted its first 1,539 students in September 2001. Today the College boasts of 4,700 full-time students.

Yesterday proved an excellent opportunity to bring together, for the second time in a festive mood, all college institutes to officially mark MCAST’s foundation day. The main activity was held outside the administration block, where the minister unveiled the main commemorative plaque in the presence of MCAST senior management, directors and deputies, college staff and all MCAST students.

Minister Galea said that with MCAST the government wanted to offer a future to thousands of young people, a sense of security to the thousands of their parents, and thousands of trained technicians and professionals to existing and emerging industries. He said it was with a certain sense of satisfaction that he was attending the foundation day, seven years after it was established and in the beginning of the seventh academic year for the college, mainly due to the success story that is MCAST.
